Surya: Shimmer Shag Collection
Shimmer rugs are made from 100% Polyester: Polyester is a synthetic product most often used as a textile. Hand woven rugs represent the highest quality and craftsmanship. Each rug begins with a background of vertical warp threads. This ultra plush design has a rug thickness of 3/4" with pile heights that can exceed 2" which is a strong characteristic of shag rugs. Made in India.

Expected Delivery Time of Surya Products:

When a customer's order is received it will be processed with the manufacturer who processes each order with the customer's selected size options. Customers receive an email confirmation of their order with the options they selected. Their order will then be packaged by the manufacturer and shipped. We will then contact a carrier to pickup our customer's product and ship it to them. Once shipped to the customer's address, we then email our customer or update the tracking information through our website for their order status. Surya products are typically delivered within 2-3 weeks from the time the order is placed. Special order rugs lead times vary. Call for details.

About Surya:

In 1976, in the small Northeastern village of Ugapur, India, Surya M. Tiwari was a man set apart from the crowd. Working as a teacher and local contractor in his rural village, he knew of greater places and dreamed of a greater purpose. Countless tales of Bombay, its modern technology and its luxurious accommodations, drew him to the bustling coastal city. So like many inquisitive people from Ugapur, he set out to discover what possibilities might await him in such a place. But Surya did not simply go to Bombay and marvel; he approached each new discovery as an opportunity for greatness. And so, when he came to the famed Taj Hotel, he did not just stand outside and admire its beauty and opulence; he boldly went inside. It was there, in the lobby of one of world’s most prestigious hotels that Surya Tiwari was introduced to the Federated Group representing American retailers. This introduction would soon lead to Surya to expand into North America with its many unique and stylish India made rugs.

For more than 2,500 years people have been making rugs. Utilizing naturally found elements such as wool, cotton and even strong reed-like grasses, the earliest examples of rugs were created by nomadic tribes for utilitarian purposes such as protection from harsh climate conditions. As people began to develop more permanent settlements, the art of rug making began to flourish. Some of the most exquisite illustrations of skill and craftsmanship came from Eastern countries such as India and Persia, but rug-making soon made its way into other cultures through various trade routes. Each culture adapted the art of rug making to portray its own beliefs and aesthetic preferences. As rugs began to proliferate, so too did the variety of materials that were utilized. Depending on the area, rugs may have been crafted from silk, or even finely spun gold thread. Fiber constructions also evolved to include everything from traditional hand-knotted, hand-hooked and hand-woven to the machine made rugs of today. The designs and colors that exemplified the original rug making cultures and communities are the same ones being used by current global rug manufacturers, and the ancient patterns that were once valued for their meaning are now being valued for the decorative aspects. Today’s rug weavers are highly trained craftsmen who continue to uphold centuries of traditions. Even though it is agreed that hand-knotted rugs are superior in longevity and quality, machine made and hand tufted rugs are a cost effective alternative that gives customers the look they desire at a more affordable price. Modern rug manufacturers are utilizing new technologies to develop fiber constructions that create depth, movement, and texture. Patterns that were once valued for the meaning are now being valued for their decorative aspects as well. Whether it is a centuries old antique or a contemporary interpretation, rugs are an art form that continues to be admired and woven throughout the world.

About FedEx/UPS Shipments:

Surya rug products that can be shipped FedEx/UPS will be sent out in the manufactures packaging. Once shipped we provide our customers with the FedEx tracking number so they can track the shipment of their product. Typically drivers will simply leave these packages at a central location they normally deliver to when the customer receives FedEx/UPS shipments as it is often the same driver delivering to them on the driver's daily route. However a customer normally receives this type of shipment is what to expect. Customer feedback on deliveries over the years has been that generally boxes are not carried inside but delivered to the front door or to a central location such as an apartment complex office or other central location. If UPS/FedEx don't leave packages for the customer and instead require a signature on deliveries in their area, the individual may be required to call FedEx/UPS to arrange a re-delivery or to pick up their product from their local terminal. Customers who have issues with FedEx or UPS deliveries should contact us so that we can work out other arrangements if possible.
