Skovby was founded by a talented cabinet maker, Thorvald Rasmussen in 1933. At 23 years old, the young Rasmussen started up his own family business in his mother's little house in Skovby. He was talented, hard working with Thorvald's own tools allowing for small-scale production of quality handmade furniture. In 1943 Thorvald would hire on several apprentices and built an expansion behind his mother's house increased shop space. In 1955 post-war years' rationing was succeeded by a growing demand for long-lasting consumer goods creating a furniture boom in Europe. Joining his father, Villy Rasmussen along with his father beagn turning Skovby into a modern industrial business. The company has expanded several times over the years including a new factory built in Galten. Today, this family business includes the third generation of Rasmussens with Villy and Erna's sons Jørgen and Preben. Three Danish factories, each with thier own area of specialization make up the production of Skovby furniture products. Made to the highest quality offering both form and function in their designs. Skovby continues to build impressive Scandinavian furniture utilizing unique features, finishes and upholstery fabrics.

About Skovby Furniture

From a tree to a piece of furniture.
Skovby is of course a completed unity of three factories throughout Denmark. But the story about the company's expansion shows that the three factories today each have their own area of specialization. In a way you can say that Skovby, where everything started, today is the supplier to the other two factories in the company. Wood is processed in the original Skovby factory which includes molding, drilling machines and CNC machines.

When the wood has been processed to the right shape, the materials need to be polished. The distinctive feature about the process in Skovby is that it includes polishing by both hand and machine, and polishing by an advanced robot, working day and night. At all stages ongoing quality control is carried out. The idea is that nothing can go on to the next stage before it has been checked and is deemed ok. Anything in fault is fixed on the spot or sent back through the system, - preferably to the previous stage. But in some cases it is obviously unavoidable that some things must be rejected and discarded. That way, waste is avoided wherever possible. This is no surplus production. The idea is simple: 100 units in - 100 units out.

At the factory in Galten the work is primarily done on chipboard, which is laminated with veneered in an advanced and automated veneer press line. Depending on the unit, the veneered board is then fitted with veneer or solid edges that are supplied from the factory in Skovby. In Galten are machine workshops with advanced production equipment, such as drilling machines and double end profiles and not least CNC machines. In the polishing department, the principles are the same as in Skovby as there are machines polishing the units, but a part of the polishing work is done by hand, so that full control is with the individual worker.

LifeStyles Furniture is proud to offer Skovby brand furniture. Currently in our showroom we have dining room tables, chairs, sideboards, hutches, entertainment centers and tables. Skovby represents to the individual a modern, contemporary approach to furniture and does a great job of showcasing unique features into each piece of furniture. Furniture in our modern world needs to be able to do more and Skovby has kept up in this face paced world with innovations and patented designs. Each dining room table comes with built in extension of a system of leaf extensions that can easily be pulled out of each unit. Many tables that would normally seat 4-6 can now seat 8, 10 or even up to 14 seats. This can be great for parties or family gatherings when additional dining room seating is required. Dining room furniture is also offered with modern chairs which are designed with curves as well as straight lines. Each look is unique and sure to blend in well with any home decor.

About Skovby Furniture Skovby furniture is Danish modern furniture that is offered in a variety of wood finishes. From oak, cherry, mahogany, beech, teak or wenge. Wood finishes are available for any decor. Skovby furniture is made function that will enhance any home. Dining room tables feature a patented system of leaves that come up out of the tables making it easy to make room for more guests or family. Chairs are made available in a variety of fabrics or leathers depending on your unique tastes. Many styles are stocked and available for delivery in 2-3 weeks. Special order colors are made to order from Denmark. Quality, form and function make this Scandinavian furniture line a welcome addition to any modern home.

Upholstery is done at the factory in Marktoften. The facility has a big stockroom with different types and colors of fabric, as well as a large selection of leather makes it possible to supply chairs after the customer's specific wishes. Besides being the center for chair production, Marktoften is also the place where all of the products are stored, before they are distributed to the customers. Three factories would lead one to think that people would lose touch. In general however communication works well. Through a daily physical transport system and modern communication means such as Skovby TV there is continuous contact. Concurrent statements from all members of staff is that Villy Rasmussen every day - almost as regular as clockwork - visits the three factories.
