About Kathy Ireland Home Omnia® Leather Furniture.

Omnia® Leather furniture is an interesting company that combines European and American designs and workmanship into a quality piece of furniture. Located in Chino, CA. the company was founded by father and son.
Leather Hides - Omnia®:
Something special about Omnia is that they use a large majority of leather hides from European tanneries that have existed since the old world began working in the leather tanning process ages ago. This tanning process which has been around for centuries and was perfected by the European tanneries is considered to be among the best in the world. Omnia® uses only 100% top grain and full grain leathers in their leather furniture. Each piece of leather is unique and this is why Omnia offers a wide variety of leather choices with over 15 types of leather grades available from many of the finest tanneries. A wide assortment of colors and construction techniques are available as well as contrast stitching. You'll find traditional, transitional & contemporary styled furniture in the latest styles by American & European designers.
Hardwood Frames - Omnia®:
Omnia® leather furniture takes these European leather hides and places them onto American made hardwood frames. These frames are built using kiln dried hardwood. This process of drying wood not only helps to preserve the wood but provides increased strength for better longevity. Kiln dried wood is put into an insulated chamber where controlled air is circulated over it. This helps to remove free and bound water moisture from the wood before it is put into use as a component to furniture. Omnia's® wood frames are built and assembled in Chino, CA where American workers build the hardwood frames. Omnia® uses reinforced corner blocks throughout the frame which provides added strength to this furniture. With a frame construction made so durable Omnia® offers a lifetime warranty on all of their hardwood frames. There are brands of leather furniture that do not use hardwood construction and these products will not offer the same strength and durability that you will find in all Omnia leather furniture brand pieces.
Cushions & Frame Supports – Omnia®:
Something must be under your cushions and over your framework to help support both in your leather furniture. Omnia® continues to build quality into their products by using advancements in new tempered steel spring technologies which are incorporated into the seat and back sections of this leather furniture seating. Triple cross wire support is also added into the seating foundation to provide additional support. Your cushion should also be soft and have a luxurious feel and Omnia® accomplishes this by using a a combination high density polyurethane foam inside their cushions which is wrapped in a polyester Dacron wrap which provides that added comfort. Special high quality polyester fiber or high resilient polyurethane foam depending on the style of sofa is used in the back cushions of every Omnia® piece of leather furniture.

About Ekornes Stressless Leather Furniture:
Ekornes is a company that was founded by J.E. Ekornes Fjærfabrikk back in the early 1930’s in Sunnmøre, Norway. Starting with just three employees and some German machinery he started out building steel spring components for mattress and furniture manufacturers. Looking for greater challenges Ekornes turned his efforts into building a better mattress. He attended a furniture show where he saw a British sofa mattress interior that consisted of large springs linked by steel coils. Believing this system can be incorporated into conventional mattresses, he heads back to his factory in Norway. There he works with his factory foreman and the two come up with what would become the Svane® line of mattresses.
After World War II in 1946 Jens Ekornes travelled to the United States where he worked in a mattress factory to expand his knowledge in his trade. He is so impressed by the American’s machinery and how streamlined the manufacturing process was that he hires an American expert to come back with him to Norway to teach his workers how to operate the new American machinery he just purchased for his factory. Around the same time as upgrading his mattress division, Jens Ekornes begins building furniture components for furniture manufacturers much in the same way he began building springs for mattress manufacturers back in the 30’s.
In the early 1960’s Ekornes® began producing foamed plastics. This was an important next step for the company as it would allow them to move forward into implementing this material into their Svane® mattresses and furniture. In 1966, Ekornes® introduced a collection of lounge furniture which included matching sofas, chairs and tables. This would mark the beginning of Ekornes entering the furniture market with their own line of products and would lead to a successful line of leather furniture.
The furniture explosion for Ekornes though happened in 1971 when they introduced to the world a recliner simply known as the Stressless® recliners. The recliner featured a steel swivel base and included a matching ottoman. A patented glide system was engineered into the chair that allowed the recliner to move with the individual.

Today Ekornes® Stressless® products are sold throughout the world and Ekornes employs over 1,000 people throughout their state of the art factories in Europe. The leathers in these grades offer different and unique characteristics in each grade. Many colors are also available among these leathers and are sure to help you in creating your own style and taste into each piece of furniture. Ekornes stocks many leather types and colors in the United States for American consumers which means you can often have your new Ekornes® Stressless® leather furniture within just a couple of weeks. For leather furniture that is not stocked in the United States, it is special ordered from Norway in the color you need. Typically this will take anywhere from 12-14 weeks as it will need to come over on container into North America. You can ask your sales associate for more information about colors that are stocked and special order.
